Raising the Roof Review
There was a packed house at Pinder Hall last Friday night, 19 November 2010, for a production of “Raising the Roof” a programme of “music and laughter, poetry and prose”, staged to raise money for Holy Trinity Church’s Restoration Fund. Guests started the evening with self catered dinner, followed by a two act revue, featuring a sparkling line-up of local talent, including John Brooks, making a welcome return to Cookham, Marianne and Malcolm Stork, Jami Castell, Ricky Lonmon, John Hedger, Peter Hughes, Catherine Arnold and Mike Clark. Special guests were “Voices in Harmony”, whose members include Nick Plant, Associate Priest in the Cookham Benefice, and Rob Castell, the leader of Barbershopera, a multi award winning group at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, whose new production, “Apocalypse no!”, will be featured at the 2011 Cookham Festival.
The musical accompaniment was provided by Nigel Topping and special lyrics were provided by Marianne Stork and Ricky Lonmon. The sketch, “Skinny Cap to Go”, was written by local actor and playwright Richard James.
Special thanks are due to the 14 local restaurants who generously donated prizes to the “Restaurant Tree” tombola, which proved to be a popular fund raiser on the night.
The capacity audience greeted the show with every sign of enthusiasm and the evening raised over £2,000 for the restoration fund.
